The organization

The Verein Ostfriesischer Stammviehzüchter eG is a breeding and marketing organisation in the north of Germany in the regions East Frisia, Frisia and Ammerland.

Cattle breeding and milk production have a long tradition in this area. The VOST was established in 1878 and looks back on 125 years of registered cattle breeding. The black and white Holsteins are the main breed of dairy cows in this area.
Dairy cattle management, cattle insemination and embryo transfer as well as marketing of breeding cattle and beef stock are the services we offer our members. If you want to improve the genetic quality of your dairy herd or if you plan the extension of your herd – our experience and competence are at your disposal.

About 75.000 animals (dairy cattle and beef stock) are sold yearly in all parts of Germany and Europe as well as in North Africa and Asia. At 10 dairy cattle auctions every year you can buy interesting breeding cattle.
The VOST has a modern A.I. station in Georgsheil. More than 250,000 services are carried out annually on member farms. Semen of VOST bulls is sold in more than 30 countries in the world. The GGI (German Genetics International; www.ggi.de) is our competent partner in semen marketing.

The VOST also has a successful embryo-transfer station. About 1000 embryos are produced every year from the best cows in this area. The classical method and also the techniques of OPU (ovum-pick-up) and IVP (in-vitro-production) are carried out by our experienced employees.
